Dracula was for Romanian people a brave ruler in a turbid history of the medieval times, callous with traitors, a dauntless fighter for his small country - Wallachia, surrounded by hostile empires. But for most of the world people, Dracula is a legendary inexorable, bloody and immortal Wallachian ruler who spend his time in Transylvania overcast medieval castles haunting in the nights victims for blood. The “Dracula” horror thriller writhed by Scottish Bran Stoker in second part of the 19-th century is the most famous horror book in the world. Now vampires and Dracula are very popular but I don’t think the people know the both side of the Dracula tale. Now is time to discover with us a unique Transylvania also Wallachia provinces and returning with centuries ago to the places when the legend begun.

Daily program


Day 1:Otopeni international airport – Bucharest city tour

Bucharest is the main city in Romania with over 2300000 citizens, and the main industry, executive and cultural center for Romania and for this part of Europe. Surnamed “Little Paris” in the first part of the 20-th century was mentioned in the communism period by a “social” architecture. Bucharest was founded in XV century by Vlad Tepes – Dracula. Visit the “Peasant Museum” – was the museum of year 1996 in Europe. Great glass and wood icons collection. These are good places to buy authentically souvenirs. In this day we will see the “Curtea Veche” in the center of the city when Dracula ruler lived. The Dracula was the first Wallachian ruler who built here a residence. Don’t omit from our program to see the second largest building on earth (after Pentagon) – “The Parliament Palace” built by the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

The accommodation and dinner is in a hotel and restaurant by three stars in Bucharest.

Day 2: Bucharest – Mogosoaia palace – Targoviste town – Cetateni area – Dambovita valley – Campulung Muscel - Curtea de Arges - - Poienari fortress - Vidraru lake

From Bucharest we go to Mogosoaia palace – one of the most beautiful Byzantine with renaissance influence palace from 17 century in Wallachia built by Brancoveanu ruler, then continue to Targoviste town, the former capital of Wallachia in the medieval period, a place with many old churches, ruins, towers. Dracula was the first ruler who changed the residence from Targoviste to Bucharest. In old part of the town are the Chindiei Tower, “Domneasca Mare” and “Domneasca Mica” churches. We follow Dambovita valley inside the Meridionali Carpathian to Namaiesti hermitage delved in rock. Then we cross many hills covered by large vineyards and orchards to Curtea de Arges cathedral one of the most beautiful churches from Romania and one of the most beautiful built in Byzantine style in the world ( UNESCO - patrimony). The legend tells about the sacrifice of the workers team managed by legendary Manole master, who walled his beautiful wife. Poianeri fortress was built in XIV and rebuilt by Dracula in XV century on a huge rock, with difficult access. Inside the Carpathian we cross deep and wild Arges gorges to impressive Vidraru dam and large lake (14 km length). We will spend the rest of the day in a hotel near the Vidraru lake.

The accommodation is in Cumpana or Valea cu Pesti Hotels in good condition (two stars). Breakfast in Bucharest and dinner in Cumpana hotel.

Day 3: Vidraru lake – Olt valley – Cozia and Turnu monasteries - trekking inside Fagaras mountains

In the morning start to cross Carpathian to Transylvania on deep and spectacular Olt valley. There are the beautiful monasteries Cozia and Turnu, buit in Byzantine style in XV century. In Transylvania we ascending the highest mountains from Romania – Fagaras mountains. From Balea Lac we start our hiking trip to one of the highest peak from Carpathian– Vanatoarea lui Buteanu peak with 2507m alt. offering an amazing view to the mountains and Transylvania. Spend the evening in Balea Lac or Balea Cascada hut in good condition.

Breakfast in Cumpana Hotel. The accommodation and dinner is in alpine hut (Balea Lac or Balea Cascada) in good condition in Fagaras mountains.

Day 5: Fagaras mountains - Sibiu city tour.

In the morning descending Fagaras mountains to Sibiu town. Sibiu is a beautiful fortified town with many medieval markets, towers, bridges and stairs. Built by Romanian and German people in XII century it was one of the most fortified town from Europe. Visit Brukenthal Museum one of the first museums from this part of Europe with important paintings collections. Astra Museum from Dumbrava Sibiului is one of the greatest folklore museums in Europe. Romania preserves the greatest folklore traditions in Europe. Spend free time in the city for shopping or to discover the beauty of old architecture. By the way, Dracula spent many times in Sibiu fortress for trade changes.

The accommodation is in Sibiu in hotel by three stars. Breakfast at alpine hut in Fagaras mountains.

Day 6: Sibiu – Slimnic fotress – Medias cathedral – Biertan church – Sighisoara town

From Sibiu to Slimnic rural fortress named Stolzemburg built in 14 century by German community. A part of the fortress is ruins. In Medias is beautiful Margareta church from XIV century and the main tower with 47m high slant. This tower was included in top 10 the most slanted towers in the world. In Biertan village is a fortified medieval church – UNESCO patrimony and start from here a biking tour to Copsa Mare village and Transylvania hills (about 2 hours). Sighisoara is a very picturesque medieval fortress built in XIII and XIV century. In the center of the fortress is "Vlad Dracu house", the place where Vlad Tepes, “Dracula”, was born. The entire fortress is UNESCO – patrimony. Spend all afternoon in Sighisoara fortress.

The accommodation in Sighisoara town close to the fortress. Breakfast in Sibiu city and dinner in Sighisoara town.

Day 7: Sighisoara town – Rupea fortress – Brasov city.

Spend the morning in Sighisoara fortress and in Rupea close to Olt River visit an impressive fortress with a medieval castle inside. Cross Persani mountains to Brasov town. Brasov was built by German community in the XIII century in Barsei depression close to the mountains. Dracula visited for many times this town some time like a friend or for the few time like enemy. Inside the town we visit the old medieval center, the fortress and spend free time shopping. Spend the evening in Poiana Brasov resort in Postavaru mountains.

Breakfast in Sighisoara, dinner and accommodation are in Hotel Alpin or similar in Poiana Brasov resort.

Day 8: Poiana Brasov resort - Postavaru mountains - Rasnov fortress - Piatra Craiului mountains - Bran (Dracula) Castle - Poiana Brasov resort.

After breakfast we climb in cable-car the Postavaru mountain for a great view to Carpathian. (3 hours). Visit an important fortress from Transylvania visited by Vlad Tepes - the largest rural fortress from Transylvania – Rasnov fortress. In Plaiu Foii restaurant spend time for lunch and contemplate the impressive west side of Piatra Craiului mountains. In the afternoon visit famous Bran (Dracula) castle, a a good place to learn from local guides more stories about Dracula.

Day 9: Poiana Brasov resort – Prahova valley – Busteni resort – Sinaia resort – Peles castle – Snagov monastery – Bucharest

Cross Carpathian on picturesque Prahova valley. In Busteni resort - the capital of Romanian climbers we can contemplate the huge east side walls of Bucegi mountains with peaks over 2400m alt. Sinaia resort was the Romanian kings residence at the end of the XIX and in the first part of the XX centuries. There are some very beautiful castles, the most beautiful and preserving an interesting museum is Peles castle. After Sinaia resort we leave the beautiful Carpathian mountains to large and reach planes to Ploiesti city and Snagov. Here on an island in a middle of a natural Snagov lake is Snagov monastery from XV century built by Vlad Tepes with Turks prisoners. We cross the lake on a local boat to the monastery; the place where in the middle of the church is the Dracula grave. The inside paintings from XVI century are very interesting and valuable. From Snagov monastery we go to Bucharest city. Spend evening in Bucharest.

Breakfast in restaurant in Poiana Brasov, dinner in restaurant in Bucharest. Accommodation in Hotel Ambasador or Central (or similar).
